Proposed new or amended Soil Association standards for consultation - 2008

If you have any comments on these standard proposals, please put your comments in writing to consultation@soilassociation.org or post to Soil Association, Standards Consultation, South Plaza, Marlborough Street, Bristol, BS1 3NX.

Abattoirs and slaughtering - Allowing abattoirs that slaughter organic and non-organic animals, to slaughter organic animals either as the first of the day or after the line has been cleaned. We propose removing the requirement for the organic animals to be the first of the species that day. [PDF, 16 KB]

Aquaculture - various amendments affecting either salmon, bivalves or our general aquaculture standards covering all finish. [PDF, 40 KB] Factsheet. [PDF, 58KB]

Cleaning and hygiene of mushroom growing sheds - Specific standards for the practices and products that can be used to clean out mushroom growing sheds. [PDF, 18 KB]

Equines on organic land - Removing the requirement for an equine health plan if there are more than five equines on organic land. [PDF, 17 KB]

Preventing primary habitat loss - Our standards already prohibit the clearing of primary habitat for organic production, but with the renewed urgency to protect forests around the world we have been looking at how we can tighten them up to guarantee organic farming isn’t contributing to deforestation in any way. The standards team would like your views on the approach we are proposing. [PDF, 23 KB]

Food processing and herbal medicines - Some amendments to the additives we allow resulting from a change to Annex VI of Regulation 2092/91. [PDF, 28KB]

Non-organic fragrances - Allowing non-organic fragrances to be used in health and beauty products but under strict conditions and with our permission. [PDF, 15KB]
