Soil Not Oil appeal

A global debate is raging over the future of our food supplies. The key issue is how to feed the world’s six billion inhabitants when the world’s soil is under threat from climate change, intensive farming and urbanisation.

Faced with growing evidence that organic agriculture is better for both people and the planet, powerful agrochemical and biotechnology multinationals are fighting to protect their multi-billion dollar fertilizer, pesticide and GM interests through well-financed lobbying at the highest level.

Whilst there is absolutely no evidence that the industrialised way will provide nourishment for the 800 million people who already go hungry every day, it exacerbates climate change, destroys the soil, decimates wildlife and pushes millions of people off the land into city slums.

Our late president EF Schumacher said that it should be ideas, not vested interest, which must inform the future of our food and farming systems.

That is why the Soil Association wants to bring together a global coalition of organisations and individuals committed to the cause of truly sustainable agriculture.

Please take the time to read the Soil Not Oil booklet. It presents the case for a sustainable and more secure future.

We need your help
We need to raise at least £150,000 to build an international coalition and launch a campaign that helps to redress the balance and makes the case for alternative solutions.

Please, if you can, send a donation of whatever you can afford. We really need your support in order to protect the future of our children, the welfare of the most vulnerable people in the developing world and the great environmental and cultural diversity of this planet.
