Wester Lawrenceton is a 24 hectare mixed organic farm overlooking the Moray Firth to the mountains of Sutherland beyond. Run by Pam and Nick Rodway, the farm has a small herd of Ayrshire cattle, a flock of Gotland sheep and 350 laying hens and produces its own cheese, oatcakes, haggis, sausages and wool. The Rodways have also established a novel ‘cow sharers scheme’, where local people invest in the dairy herd in return for dairy produce.

Butter me up! SOLD OUT
Butter making and cooking with buttermilk.
Churn your way to the creamist butter and see just how different farmhouse butter is from its commercial equivalent. Pam Rodway will take you through both the theory and practice of making butter giving everyone the chance to witness the magical separation of butter from buttermilk. With uses of buttermilk stretching from cakes and traditional breads to sauerkraut! there is plenty of scope to revive this forgotten and nutritionally rich ingredient. Pam will demonstrate cooking with buttermilk and give everyone a chance to get hands on with producing it. Taking place at the time of the feast of St. Brides -patron saint of buttermaids - your day cannot fail to be a success!
